Sculpture & Architecture
Quirk (2013, Available from: http://www.archdaily.com/337603/how-to-make-architecture-not-art [Accessed: 20th December 2015]) expressed her view about the difference between sculpture and architecture, which is art, can have no responsibility to people, but architecture must consider people first before it is an art. In additional, different from sculpture, architecture is bound by technical (Sewing, 2004, p.6).
Although sculpture is a kind of space modeling art, compared to drawing, music and other forms of art, which is more closely related to architecture. Architecture is the art that above all others, combines technology expression and the satisfaction of human needs (Moore, 1979, p.18). In addition, Quirk (2013, Available from: http://www.archdaily.com/337603/how-to-make-architecture-not-art [Accessed: 20th December 2015]) has described that architecture could be a piece of art work, but it must be responsible to users and its context. But art as a form of self-expression is different, which could have no responsibility to anyone or anything.
According to Sewing (2004, p.6), only in a borderline case, architecture can be seen as pure sculpture, however precisely in which, an autonomous architecture threatens to lose its identity. I intend to inquire deeper into the elements that affecting the architectural design. It will be shown in my 'Primary Research' section.
